Every June, ACEC sponsors two member high school students on an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. as a part of the national Youth Tour. Students on Youth Tour learn about electric cooperatives, American history, and the U.S government. They visit with their representatives in the House and the Senate and see the sights around Washington, D.C. To learn more and to apply, click here.
Graduating high school seniors entering a course of study in the electric field are encouraged to apply for an ACEC Hauschild Scholarship. Students’ parents or guardians are not required to be ACEC members but must reside within the boundaries of our service area. Applications are due to the Co-op by February 28, 2026.
About the Hauschild Memorial Scholarship Fund
The scholarship fund was established in 1995 in memory of Robert Hauschild by his wife and family. This annual scholarship is provided in recognition of Bill's dedication and service as a director of the Cooperative from his election September 10, 1988, until his death March 17, 1993.
Since its inception in 1997, ACEC has awarded more than 50 scholarships, totaling over $20,000.
The Dairyland Power Cooperative Careers Scholarship was established to support one secondary education student annually. Preference is given to students who are pursuing studies for careers found in electric utility settings (engineering, IT, communications, economics, human resources, public relations, finance/accounting, etc.). Applicant's parents or legal guardians must be ACEC members. The scholarship committee will annually select one student to receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship. Applications are due to the Co-op by February 28, 2026.
Iowa's electric cooperatives annually offer a virtual opportunity for rural students to learn more about advocacy, electric cooperative career opportunities, and the cooperative business model with a three-part webinar in October. The Iowa Youth Leadership Academy is open to any high school student in our service area. Once students register online for the Iowa Youth Leadership Academy, they can attend the webinars from their computer or mobile device. Each Zoom session will last around 45-60 minutes and focus on a specific topic. At the end of each live session, one lucky attendee will be selected at random to win a pair of Apple AirPods. Students who attend all three sessions will be entered into a random drawing for a $1,000 college scholarship. Learn more at IowaYouthTour.com or contact Jennifer Achenbach at 888-788-1551.
Whether you're interested in accounting or communications, electrician school or being a lineworker, ACEC welcomes high school students to participate in a job shadow experience. When you schedule a job shadow with our office, you can learn more about your career interest by following us for a day. Go out with our line crew and see what they do to keep the lights on. Spend a day in the field with our engineering team or doing economic development visits with area businesses. Learn more about careers in accounting or finance or what it takes to put together a comprehensive media plan. To schedule a job shadow experience with any of our departments, contact Jennifer Achenbach at 888-788-1551.
